After you associate mailboxes to the email server profile, you must test if the email is correctly configured for the mailboxes, and then enable the mailboxes. The configuration test checks if the incoming and outgoing email messages are configured correctly and whether the appointments, contacts, and tasks are being correctly synchronized. When the test is run for an outgoing email, an actual test email is sent from the respective mailbox account to the email address of the mailbox itself. During the test, if an error occurs, the mailbox owner or email server profile owner is notified based on the nature of the error. Read how to Monitor email processing errors.

This tests the incoming and outgoing email configuration of the selected mailboxes and enables those for email processing. If an error occurs in a mailbox, an alert isTest shown on the Alerts wall of the mailbox and profile owner, and depending on the nature of the error, Microsoft Dynamics CRM tries to process email again after some time or disables the mailbox for email processing. If you click or tap Test & Enable Mailboxes in the email server profile form, Microsoft Dynamics CRM tests the email configuration of all the mailboxes associated to the email server profile. For the mailboxes that are configured with server-side synchronization for synchronizing appointments, tasks, and contacts, it also checks if these are configured properly.
The result of the email configuration test is displayed in the Incoming Email Status, Outgoing Email Status, and Appointments, Contacts, and Tasks Status fields of a mailbox record. An alert is also generated when the configuration successfully completes for a mailbox. This alert is shown to the mailbox owner.
